What Causes Painful And Swollen Joint On Pinky Finger?

The joint on my pinky finger, just past the nail, is swollen & extremely painful. It hurts to bend or touch this area. If I wrap the area with a small ace bandage for a few days, the pain seems to lessen. What could this be? Is a doctor s visit warranted? Thanks!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The possible causes are contusion and paronychia (infection of nail bed).
Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. If there is pus it has to be drained.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
