Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painful Rashes On The Back And Abdomen Along With Severe Headaches?
I am male of 57 years of age. Friday I acquired a strange rash that has raised center and a red outline. They are appearing and then vanishing within a couple of hours. Two of the areas on my back and stomach are now sensitive. I had a blasting headache last night but it has gone and I have not felt well for the last couple of weeks. The rash is still coming and going. What the heck?? No new foods or out of town visits in the last couple of months.
A rash that changes in a couple of hours is very likely urticaria. This is generally caused by an allergic reaction. Even though you have not had new foods recently, allergic reactions actually happen with repeated exposure (this means if we are repeatedly in contact with a certain chemical). So, it may be that certain food may have started to cause you an allergic reaction or it may be a certain flower or grass or perfumes, deodorants or other chemicals that you are in contact with.
You may take Benadryl to help with the rash (be cautious if you need to drive as it causes drowsiness) and if no improvement or any worsening you will need to see your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
