What Causes Painful Stools With Gas?

I had a CT scan with oral contrast to evaluate me for abdominal pain 3 month post op from a bowel reaection. I now have severe gas pains. Passing small amounts of stool but mostly gas and loud stomach sounds. Very painful. Is this just a side effect? How long will it last. Test was completed 3 hours ago. Worried it s a complication. Cannot miss work tomorrow!

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history About CT scan of abdomen with contrast 3 hours ago to evaluated post- resection of intestine, passing small frequent stools and gases mostly.
This can occur due to the following reasons:
This could have been local reaction to the contrast material or changed bacterial flora.
This usually recovers within a day or so.
Take plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.
Consult your Doctor if there is no resolution.
Do not worry if there is no other problems like rashes and itching.
