What Causes Painful Swelling In The Rib Cage While Having High Cholesterol?

I have like a swollen vein (hard for 3 cm) under skin below the left rip cage.. it hurt when i touch or sleep on it or even if i stretching. Note i already have high cholesterol and take a medication for it... Is it related to cholesterol or blood clot?

Hi,

Yes, this is related to high cholesterol. The way you are describing your swelling, the possibility of thrombophlebitis (inflammation of veins) is more likely. And dyslipidemia can lead to thrombophlebitis.

So better to consult a doctor and get done a clinical examination of swelling and repeat cholesterol levels. You will need antibiotic, painkiller and anti-inflammatory drugs. Strict control of cholesterol is also needed. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
