What Causes Painful Urination Along With Blood In Urine?
My husband has had painful urination for a month. He went to see the dr 1 week ago and was told it s prostitis. Today he passed a piece of flesh in his urine. Also some blood. He s never had either of those before. He s 39 and relatively healthy. What could this mean? Is it something worse than prostitis? He didn t have any blood work done only a urine check and a prostate exam.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Asad Sami's Response
Hi
If i were his treating doctor i would have suggested an ultrasound of kidney ureter and bladder. Top on my list would be cystitis which is infection of the bladder. I would have send urine for culture and sensitivity and would have started intravenous antibiotics ie cefoperazone provided that there is fever associated. I would also have suggested paracetamol for fever.cranberry juice or sachet for alkalanisation of urine iwouuld also suggest prostate specific antigen level to look for benign prostatic hypertrophy.
In my opinion you should consult urologist
Thanks. Wish you good health
