Hi,I am Dr. Joan F. Tryzelaar (Cardiac Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told a few years back that i had a leak in a heart valve, but it was nothing to worry about. does that mean mitral valve prolapse? i have recently experienced panic attacks, and anxiety, and dizzyness, that they claim is just that panic and anxiety. i read that it is a symptom of MVP...i have had 3 EKGs and a stress test...would MVP show up on those exams? should i be concerned or just believe it is anxiety.?
Leaky valve can mean any of the valves(four in number)is not closing completley and leaking blood causing overload on heart.Unless it is severe it does not cause significant damage.Echo cardiogram is the best test to evaluate the valve function and heart function. If it shouws heart function is ok then dont worry too much
