Hi, can I answer your health question? Please type your question here...My husband is 65 y/o. He was hospitalized on Nov. 19 thru 24th with either chf, pneumonia, or something else. His left vocal chord is paralyzed and we have made arrangements to have surgery when other problems resolve. He is on O2 full time, has shortness of breath, cant talk above a whisper, stays nauseated lots, has lost 30 lbs in 5 weeks. What more can we do?
Dear friend was your relative on ventilator support while in hospital with an endotracheal tube is a big question. If he was intubated than there is a fair possibility that his vocal cord paralysis might be due to intubation trauma. But as it is on one side its not that serious and gradually the intact vocal cord on other side will compensate for speech. As he is having lot of other problems also I would suggest you to not to expose him to surgical risk. Hope my opinion will help you Thank you.
