What Causes Period With Heavy Bleeding?

hi there... I am 45 years old and always usually have regular periods but lately not so much. I missed 2 months then it came with a vengence! like a murder scene. and it came back after only 6 days!! really heavy!! I have been tested and am not pre-menapausal should I be conserned and be checked out?
