What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Moaning Sounds During Nights?

Hi, I have what seems like a cold but my cough has been persistent, nearly a week now. It seems to have gotten worse and I have coughing spells mainly in the evening and morning, especially when the wind (mild wind/breeze) hits my chest or I drink/eat something cold. I have been taking over the counter meds with no luck but I ve also been waking up at night moaning a lot. Keeps happening... Any advice please?

Hi,

Persistent coughing that is worsening and associated with moaning sounds during the night may be a sign of a more serious respiratory condition such as bronchitis or pneumonia. These conditions can cause inflammation and mucus buildup in the lungs, leading to coughing and difficulty breathing.

In addition to over-the-counter medications, there are several things you can do to help manage your symptoms and promote healing:
* Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of fluids, particularly warm fluids like tea and soup, can help soothe the throat and thin out mucus, making it easier to cough up.
* Use a humidifier: A humidifier can help moisten the air and reduce irritation in the throat and lungs.
* Avoid irritants: Avoid exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke, pollution, and dust, which can worsen coughing and other respiratory symptoms.
* Get plenty of rest: Resting and taking it easy can help your body heal and recover.

If your symptoms persist or worsen despite these measures, it is important to see a healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment. They may recommend prescription medications such as antibiotics or inhalers, or further testing such as chest X-rays or blood work to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
