What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Vomiting Up Of Yellow Mucus?

Hi I have a persistent cough.(10days)When I retire in the evening I have trouble settling down because of trouble breathing and have to use my Pulmicort Turbhlr 400ug inhaler a couple of times. I haven t used it in 3 years. When I rise in the morning after about an hour I start to cough up congestion(yellow mucus).I feel considerably better after I cough up this congestion.I am 76 years old and have had perfect health.Could I have pneumonia.I have been visiting my wife in palliative care for several months and always wash my hands before and after my visit. She passed away 2 days ago. Do I have pneumonia or what?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pneumonia would normally be associated with additional symptoms such as fever, loss of appetite, chest discomfort, shortness of breath.

If these are not present then it is not likely that you have pneumonia.

It is possible that the symptoms may be related to post nasal drip of mucus. It tends to cause problems either at night or early morning.
It is associated with a cough.

Using a topical steroid nasal spray would help eg nasonex, nasocort, rhinocort, flonase

I hope this helps and I am sorry about your loss
