What Causes Persistent Cough And Blood In The Phlegm?

I have been coughing since october. I m pretty sure this is allergies because I have a constant nasal drainage. I cough up sputem at least fifteen times a day. Always clear but now has some tiny streaks of blood that look bright in color. Should I be worried or is this a semi typical symptom I should have checked out? I m also a diabetic if that makes a difference. I am 22, I have two children under four and my weight is currently 135.

Hi,

I suggest you to do warm salt water gargle, take Cetirizine, do steam inhalation (strictly for 15 mins daily), avoid all sorts of cold food stuffs, have only warm and hot food. Follow these for a week and if still it persists meet an ENT surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rohit S. Menon, Dentist
