Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have this persistent cough that just wont go away no matter what i try. i have gone to the doctors and they have prescribed stuff for me to use and nothing works. they have told me its a combination of my allergies and asthma. i don't have the symptons of asthma so i don't know what it could be. the only times i cough is in the morning after i get out of bed, before i go to bed or at times where i'm doing a lot of heavy lifting or hard work. could you tell me what causes this? thank you
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent cough during nights. Well the biggest reason we cough more at night is simple: gravity .When we lie down, the gastroesophageal reflex kicks in because mucus automatically begins to pool . The best way to counteract this gravitational pull is elevation of head with pillow. Other reasons are asthma , upper respiratory track infection or post nasal drip . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for acid reflux who may prescribe proton pump inhibitor or H2 blockers . Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory track infection .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
