What Causes Persistent Cough?

I went to the doctor for my athletes foot and persistent cough. He put me on Penicillin for my athletes foot because the skin was broken and ordered a CT scan for my chest. Four weeks later I had the CT scan and he just called saying I have a chest infection and should have penicillin. I reminded him that I just got off a round of penicillin so he asked if m cough was gone. I said it was gone before the CT scan. He said good. Now I m wondering what did the CT scan really show? Do I have cancer or something? 70 years old, exercise about 45 min a day walking etc. I have mild asthma which flares up when I eat peanuts, etc.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It must due to bronchitis which is usually age-related. Cancer presents with shortness of breath, cough, blood in sputum and chest pain.

Cancer has been ruled out by CT as there was no suspected shadow. It's good that you have an active and disciplined life.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
