What Causes Plaque Build Up In The Arteries?

I am 80 years old Korean man. On Mar 16, I got stroke in my left upper motor clot, fainted and fell. After 6 days at Cal Pacific MC, by taking atovastatin and baby asprin, and discharged. Now taking physical theraphy at home. My question is that; How my plaque in artery? Chung, Kyungbae. YYYY@YYYY

Plaque in arteries are formed mostly of cholesterol , there is no clear single reason ,however there are multiple risk factors including increasing age, diabetes ,hypertension , genetics , smoking etc.
The treatment includes exercise, good diet and lipid lowering drugs like statins may all help.
