What Causes Poor Memory In An Elderly?

My sister-in-law is 66 years old and for the past years has progressively started repeating herself very often during the day. She can t remember doing task and we are very concerned. She has always been very active and was an office manager for a large neurology physicians office before retiring. She has always been very smart and has lost all her self confidence. She is thinks everyone is picking on her that nothing is wrong with her memory.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Age related neuronal degeneration due to vascular changes causes loss of memory commonly. It is called as vascular dementia, or Alzheimer's disease.
2. Mini mental examination can help in confirmation of the dementia. It is possibly early stages and further deterioration can be slown down along with control of any behavioral disorders.
3. Meet a neurologist for evaluation. Aricept treatment will be necessary. Caretaker and family counseling will also be necessary.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
