What Causes Positive Typhoid Result Even After Taking Medications?
my son suffered fever eith throat infection . dr.given azithromycin 200 four days he has taken still fever came afer eighjt hours, then we went dr. told he given gentamycin injection and cifixm 200 , after taken this medicine he felt stomach pain , therfore we test for typhoid . the lab test shows typhi h positive 1 in 200 dilution and typhi o positive 1 in 400 dilution . for this they given offlaxin 200 morning and night . he taken this medicine for 2 days only why becasue after taken this he felt stomach pain , so we stopped this medicine, now 15 days over . no fever or stomch pain, he is diet with soft food. yester we taken typhoid test again the result shows typhi h 100 and typhi o 400
but ny son looks normal and we get confused whether the lab result is right or wrong. pl. give clarification dr.

Firstly, typhoid test that is done is a serological test
that test for the presence of antibodies. Even after
infection, these antibodies stay in blood for a given
period of time before disappearing.
That is to say a positive typhoid test does not in all cases
imply that there is an active typhoid.
Typhoid, needs to be treated with antibiotics. It is a pity that
your son couldn't complete his treatment with the offlaxin. Other
drugs such as the common bactrim can be used and will work.
