What Causes Pounding Heart After Taking Zanex For Anxiety?

I was prescribed zanex for anxiety I am experiencing at night, I am 55 and going though menopause. It is crazy and my heart pounds and I have racing thoughts. Anyway, I thought I could take this just as needed, but while reading through the materials I wanted to make sure that this is not a drug I need to take all the time?

Hello
Welcome here.
Xanax is an anti-anxiety and can safely taken if you have acute anxiety episodes.
It can be taken once you feel like anxiety symptoms are building.

You can also practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation. This will keep your anxiety levels under control.

Some foods like tea, coffee, chocolates can are anxiety provoking. A cut on those foods will also help.

Please quit smoking and alcohol, if you do.

Hope this helps.
Thanks
