What Causes Presence Of Blood And Protein In Urine?

Hi, recently my boyfriend went to the dr for a an infection and was given antibiotics for it. Well during that visit they did a urine test to check for cholestherol dm and htn. Well it turned out that they found some blood and protein in his urine. The dr gave him antibiotics to treat it. Now what we want to know is if its kidney infection he doesn't have any symptoms or pain. My boyfriend also says that when he was young drs also had found blood in his urine. Can that be posible? And if its an infection can it be sexually transmited?
Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems to be urinary tract infection. However, if the proteinuria(protein in urine) and haematuria(blood in urine) persists he would need complete evaluation of urinary tract. It is not necessary because of sexually transmitted disease but still I would suggest you to take proper precautions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
