What Causes Protruding Tongue In A Child?

Hi there. My son is 5 months old and I'm worried about his tongue always protruding. He is a healthy baby boy. Whenever he is excited, his tongue would protrude and sometimes it's kind of stiff. I touch it and he would put it back. This awkward tongue movements started when he was 4 months old. I'm worried it might be a neurological problem. Is it just a normal behavior and it would just vanish as he gets old?

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. I feel it is just a behavior pattern. But some types of seizure are also associated with similar protruding tongue. If you can upload a video of this it will be of great help in clinical diagnosis. Other option is take a video and approach your pediatrician as the kid might not protrude tongue in pediatrician's office. Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
