What Causes "jittery And Nervous Feeling" In Lower Back?

My husband frequently gets what he describes as a "jittery, nervous feeling" in his lower back. It drives him crazy, and he can't sleep. He thinks it could be related to constipation. His constipation is probably due to narcotics that he takes for pain. The nervous, jumpy feeling does seem to subside if his bowels move. Is there something else going on? How should he treat this?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

His symptoms could be related to nerve damage. For this reason, I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and performing some tests:

- A thoraco-lumbar spine MRI study
- A nerve conduction study to examine the nerves
- Blood electrolytes

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aida Quka
