What Causes Random Spotting Between Periods?

hi, i got my period march 21 10 days early, and it started with dark brown spotting for a day then got my period for 7 days when its always been 3 days (never with brown discharge) then i started spotting again april 4th dark brown agin, but this time no period! it seems to start showing the spotting when i wipe, when i cough more??? what does it mean?
