What Causes Rapid Heart Rate Along With High Blood Pressure In A Child?

My 15 year old daughter has what I think is a stomach bug. Not eating but no high temp. She is complaining about a racing heartbeat and it s at about 118. Is this due to the bug? She has high blood pressure due to kidney problems and takes tablets for this.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Loss of appetite can occur in many different illnesses. The presence of vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhea would point towards a stomach/intestinal infection.

If these are present then this could be the case.

The increase in pulse rate can occur as a result of the illness itself. IF her symptoms continue and there is no obvious cause (cough/cold, vomiting/diarrhea etc), then she may need to see her doctor for assessment and treatment.

I hope this helps
