What Causes Rashes On The Armpit And Knee After Using Lamotrigine 25 Mg?

I lost my husband recently, and was prescribed 25 mg of Lamotrigine, which I've been on two weeks. I had just doubled the dosage, as I was instructed, to 2 tablets a day. I have a rash under my arms and down both arms, and on my knees. Could that be related to the drug?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Lamotrigine is a mood stabiliser drug used in depression of bipolar disorder. The drug is known to result in headache and rashes as side effects. These side effects are seen more commonly during first few weeks of therapy though can be seen anytime during the treatment. These rashes can complicate into morbilliform drug eruptions or some times into severe systemic reactions or Stevan's Johnson's Syndrome. As he has developed the rashes on increasing the dose so I would advise you to stop his drug immediately and report to his doctor. These rashes may complicate into serious complications.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
