What Causes Raw Feeling In Throat And Bronchial Tubes?

Since Dec 21 I am plagued with a raw feeling deep down in the throat and into the bronchial tubes. Speaking aggravates the problem. But even just breathing makes the lower throat and bronchial tubes feel sore. No cough, throat feels VERY dry. Am on medicine for GERD, but this is not the cause. There is no visible redness in the throat, and even checking with a dental mirror and flashlight looking down toward the larynx, I can see no red areas. Have appointment with specialist, but it is not for a few weeks yet. And am worried.

Hi,

The commonest causes of such rare problems can be due to the following reasons:
There is a condition called pharyngitis sicca in which there is generalized dryness in pharynx
- Many a times the cause can be Sjogren's syndrome, any autoimmune diseases
- GERD that is gastroesophageal reflux disease can also cause this due to local irritation due to gastric contents
- Allergic problems
- Dry and hot weather

I would advise you to consult an ENT surgeon for examination, endoscopy. Do relevant investigations. Review the status of GERD. Get Upper GI Endoscopy and X-ray of chest along with any other investigations as would be advised. All these will lead to a specific cause so that additional treatment can be started.
