What Causes Rectal Bleeding Along With Mucus Discharge?

I just passed a stool that had some blood/mucus with it...but not in it. The blood/mucus actually reminds me of the blood a women gets when she s on her period, only it wasn t as dark. It looked as if it had dripped into the bowl. This had never happened to me before. I m in no pain or do I have any discomfort.

Hi,

Your symptoms point towards piles, fissure or polyp-like cause as bleeding is fresh red.

I suggest you consult a surgeon for proctoscopy rectal examination first. If no cause identified than stool routine micro examination advisable. According to cause specific treatment given.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
