What Causes Recurrent Seizures And Painful Hiccups?
Hello I am a male in his late 30 s who is concerned about recent symptoms. 3 days ago I began developing periodic fits of painful hiccups. The discomfort is heightened when they arise after eating or drinking. I recently ate a deli sandwich, potato chips and a tall glass of water. The painful hiccups began again and were accompanied by small amount of vomit with the frequency of about every other hiccup. My throat and inner chest are irritated from the hiccups and vomiting. Is this some sort of acid reflux or worse? -Concerned.

Your symptoms could be related to gastro-esophageal reflux or indigestion. For this reason, I would recommend trying an antiacid or PPI (omeprazole, pantoprazole) and avoid spicy food. It is important to avoid large meals and try to eat more frequently an in small portions. If the problem persists, I recommend performing a chest X ray study and a fibrogastroscopy. Hope you will find this answer helpful! Kind regards, Dr. Aida
