What Causes Recurring Abdominal Pain With Blood In Stools?

I woke up during the night with a stomach ache and what I thought was bad gas pains. I sat on the toilet for a while trying to go and I did, but still had the pains on and off. I was up for several hours, trying to go to the bathroom about 6 or 7 more times, which I did, but a little each time. This morning, when I went again, there was blood on the toilet paper. I still have a stomach ache on and off - not consistent.

Hello there,

I read your medical history carefully and let me recapitalize your health problems as following:

- sudden stomach ache at night that woke you up
- many painful defecation by little stools
- in the morning you noticed bloody stools
- you still have stomach ache on and off now

At this point, I need to ask if you have ever had stomach or other gastrointestinal problems before?

Was the blood noted in the paper fresh red blood or just dark stools?
What was your evening meal?

Bloody stools are a clinical sign of some gastrointestinal disorders. If fresh blood is noticed probably it can be due to hemorrhoids but they do not give stomach trouble.

Your situation is because of the raised intestinal transit which has made you poop more. This transit can be influenced by food and medication. What you ate at dinner can explain the changes on your bowel movements and stool.

The blood can be due to a blood vessel ruptured because the damage that caused by the stool transit. In this case there is nothing to worry to much.

However, a further examination by proctologist to check for hemorrhoids is advised together with abdominal ultrasound and examination of stool for occult blood.

If symptoms will get worse and won't subside, should consult with gastroenterogist for further evaluation and more specific treatment.

Hope it was of help!
