What Causes Recurring Abdominal Pain With Rash All Over The Body?

My 6 year old has had intermittent stomach pain throughout the day for a couple weeks and this morning has a full body rash - though not accompanied with a fever or fatigue. She says her stomach pain is very bad, but it usually goes away entirely within 5-10 minutes. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation your daughter is in.

Having intermittent stomach pain throughout the day associated with body rash are signs for possible viral infection affecting GI tract and with skin manifestation (rash).

I highly recommend to consult further with her pediatrician to exclude other infectious diseases. Fecal analysis and abdominal ultrasound are also recommended.
Otherwise, the rash and GI problems will subside in a few days.

For the moment, I advise to:
- encourage her to drink plenty of water, yogurt, juice
- give her probiotics to help stabilize intestinal flora
- if the pain would be unbearable for her and not subsided after taking paracetamol or ibuprofen or mephenamic acid, I advise to send her to ER as she might need other prescription medications.

Wish fast recovery!
