What Causes Recurring Dry Cough?

I had a dry cough and lost my voice on May 14TH, went to the doctors he gave me that Azithromycin 250mg pak tab antibiotic plus Prometh/cod syrup and after 2 days felt worst so I went to another doctor and he gave me 2 shots and put me on Cefdinir 300 mg. Felt better but on about June 6Th I was getting the same symptoms again so I went to my regular doctor and he gave me two shots and put me on another round of cefdinir plus prednisone. 3 days ago I started getting that dry cough again and yesterday June 23rd, I lost my voice again. Doctors notes say Bronchitis. No culture or anything has been taken, no blood work etc. Why does this keep coming back and should I go back to the doctors again?

Hello
You are having dry cough from 14th May and still on 23rd June dry cough with loss of voice ??? may be hoarseness of voice .
Took azithromycin antibiotic with promethazine + codeine syrup ( most effective and cough suppressant ) .
No relief , than took cefdinir antibiotic again most effective for U R I , this time also prescribed prednisolone ,but no relief.
Doctor diagnosed it as bronchitis .
All these symptoms are suggestive of ASTHMATIC ALLERGIC BRONCHITIS ( a precursor of asthma ) .
Dry hacking cough , shortness of breath, wheezing , chest tightness , cough aggravated early in the morning.
All these symptoms may be due to some allergens , as these causes bronchoconstriction , hence this causes bronchospasm , this causes cough ( dry usually in nature ) . But if infection also present then there may be mucus formation . In your case loss of voice may be due to throat allergy and infection.
Take dextromethophan tablets for local throat infection and irritation.
Gargles with antiseptic solution ( medicated )also helps.
When such patient visit I only advise them to take monteleukast+ bambuterol tablet twice in day . Levofloxacin 750 mg / day ( once in day ) for 5-7 days .
In my opinion this treatment will suit you.
Since this is a prescription treatment so consult a physician and get his opinion.
Hot coffee and steam inhalation will provide prompt relief in voice and throat.
Good luck.
