What Causes Red And Painful Bruise On Shin During Pregnancy?
I have a red bruise on my left shin which started out very small (size of a penny) but after 3 weeks or so, it has grown to about 4inches in diameter and height. There is no sign of healing, and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to put weight on my leg without causing pain. I also have no idea how the bruise and consequent swelling came about...I never recalled hitting something or falling over. Please help as I am worried! I am also pregnant. If this is an infection, could this or any medication I may need potentially harm my baby?
Shin is a very tender area as it below the skin there is direct bone. It pains a lot. If the red area has appeared under the skin, it has to be related to the shin bone. If you do not recall any trauma, knowingly or unknowingly, then the most common cause could be related to bleeding or clotting disorder. If you are on aspirin therapy, you have to discontinue it with the advice of your obstetrician. Please report this to your obstetrician who will also scrutinize all the medicines you are taking. If any of it is responsible for it, it will be discontinued. Please do not ignore this increasing bleeding area lest it may cause bleeding complications during pregnancy or during or after delivery. I hope you take the advice seriously.
