What Causes Red Bumps Around The Neck Of A Child?

My 4 year old son has small red bumps around his neck for 2 weeks and the doctor says it is some kind of wart, which is contagious. do you know what this is called and how I can get rid of it. I have an appointment for a dermatologist in one week but I would like to use something to try and get rid of it before then.
