What Causes Red Spots After Taking Norethisterone?
Hi I ve been given norethisterone tablets by my doctor because I want to stop my period as I m going on holiday tomorrow I have started taking them today as not due on for another three days. I m worried it hasn t worked though as I have a 2 tiny browny red blood stains in my knickers is that just because it s stopping my period or hasn t the tablets worked???
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern that you need to postpone your periods as you are going on a holiday. NORETHISTERONE is a synthetic progestogen hormone, which is used commonly as a progestogen-only oral contraceptive or the mini pill. It is also used to delay a period. One of the common side effect observed is breakthrough bleeding or spotting from the vagina, which is mainly due to changes in the hormone levels. What you are experiencing is the same. Intermittent spotting may occur, which will subside on its own. That doesn't mean that the tablet hasn't worked. Hence you need to continue with it and take the dose as prescribed by your doctor. Hope the information provided is clear. All the best.
