What Causes Reurring Brown Spotting After Periods?

Around the 3rd of this month I was expected my period, but instead I saw brown discharge/spotting. 2 weeks later it looked like I was having a period at first, but after 3 days I ve been spotting ever since & it hasn t stopped. It s been 3 1/2 weeks of spotting, what does all this mean?? Never happened to me before.

Abnormal bleeding that is not associated with menstruation may be caused:
hormone imbalances
fibroids,polyps,inflammation,scar tissue in the uterus or cervix
endometriosis
thyroid disorders
ectopic pregnancy
You do not delay your appointment with a doctor because you need to do;
pelvic examination
culture of discharge(rule out infection or SST)
PAP smear(rule out cervix pathologies)
blood test(exclude hormone imbalance,or thyroid disorders)
ultrasound(check for abnormal growths)
