What Causes Round Black Spots On Ribs?

i have two perfectly round black spots on my left 8th rib....after doing a bone scan special type of x-ray, because it didn t show up on regular x-ray or CT scan, they said I had a fractured rib. the spots are a little ways apart. I had terrible pain and could not take a deep breath at all. it healed up after about a month...they still don t know what caused the fracture. I have seen the x-rays and I have no idea how they can say it was a fracture...I may be getting a MRI because I don t know what it is

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I have studied your case. Dark spot which appears on MRI is called cold spot also as it is suggestive of low activity of bone in that region. It is also called looser zone. It can be due to fracture or low vitamin D or calcium. It is not very serious issue.
I would recommend you to start daily calcium and vitamin D3 . if there is any other thing on MRI than you can share that report with me.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
