What Causes Runny Nose , Cough And Sore Throat In A Child?

My 8 month old son has a nasty cough, runny nose, and sore throat. He barley eats anything and to top it off he has an ear ache. Is there anything I can do at home to help him? I took him to the emergency the other day and the Dr told me just to give him tylenol and vitamin D. But it doesnt seem to help.

He might be having acute otitis media, needs to be evaluated with an otoscope by the pediatrician. He might as well need antibiotics. The examining physician is the one who can decide for antibiotics.
