Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes 'sand Like' Stools After Taking An Antibiotic For Diarrhea?
My stools are formed but when I flush they become like sand quickly. This has been going on for about 8 weeks. I also go more often than normal. Eight weeks ago I took an antibotic and it gave me diaerra and then the stool became as I described above and hasn't returned to normal. Thank you for your help.
dear sand like stools may lack of bile pigment that may gives rise above appearance. may be during antibiotic induced diarrhea your bile salts lost through it so less amount may recycled to liver through enterohepatic circulation it need time to produce fully so that's why your stool is pale. just get your stool examination is done.please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly. I think I answered to your question if you have more questions feel free to ask.
take care
