My fiancé woke up during the night, he said it felt like someone had hit him in his lower leg with a hammer, he went to use bathroom and he started shaking all over like it was some type of seizure, it quit but within 5 minutes he had 2 more any ideas what could have caused this
History not proper to come to conclusion. But I will mention possible causes for shivering in lower limbs. If he is not having loss of consciousness with lower limb shivering may be due to simple partial seizures. If associated kiss of consciousness may be due to generalized seizures.
Spinal cord compression may develop both lower limb weakness lead to shivering. Stroke may lead to weakness. Hypokalemia or hypocalcemia may present like seizures. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your neurophysician and get it done EEG, MRI brain and spine then he will examine and treat you accordingly.
