Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Allergic Cough For The Last One And Half Months In A Child?
Hello Doctor My son who is 10 years old has developed severe allergic coughing for the last 1.5 month. I have got him diagnosed by a doctor (MD) as well as a pulmonologist but the coughing still persists as it was earlier. He has gone through chest x-ray, mantoux test as well as CBC with no suggestive of worrying factor. Please guide me what to do next ?
Firstly, I would like to know your treatment history, and if there is any exposure to known allergens. I suggest you should undergo re-examination because you might need bronchodilators to relieve cough.
If I were your treating physician I would advise skin allergy test and immunoglobulin level in blood that will help in identifying the causative factor. You should try wearing mask and avoid dust, pets and any food to which you are allergic. You can take honey in lukewarm water and steam inhalation that will be soothing for your throat.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ammara Kaleem, Pediatrician
