1. Since not able to deduce your age from the history, so I usually consider tremors according to the AGE, i.e.
A. If it is in young patient, then first symptom wise approach is
- Is he nervous, [
anxiety related- tremors appear when the person is tense or excited]
- Is he Alcoholic, [alcohol induced or withdrawal tremors]
- Is person Thyrotoxic, [enlarged
thyroid, ask for serum T3, T4, TSH]
- Is it drug-induced, [
asthma medication, antidepressants, certain hypertensives drugs]
- Is it hysterical, [if tremors are atypical, or involving only one limb or increases in presence of people]
B. If it is in old patients, then
- it could be
senile tremors, [bilateral, affect hands, neck & legs and increase if patients attempt to hold or write something]
- It could be early Parkinson's disease
PS. As treatment will depend on the cause of tremor whether physiological or pathological thus consult an Endocrinoneurologist for further evaluation and management.
