What Causes Severe Back Pain?

woke up one morning 3 wks ago turned head to left and felt a sharp burning pain radiate down from base of neck into left shoulder blade area. Two days later it happened again when waking up. Still very painful and worse after having an adjustment with my chiropractor a few days ago. What could this be?

Hello,

I have studied your case.

According to your history and complains yes such kind of pain can due to compression of nerve and muscle sprain due lifting of heavy weight or heavy exercises.
Another differential can be nerve compression due to disc bulge which may need MRI for confirmation. Some time CT contrast may not show minor disc bulge. If clinically vascular status is feeble colour Doppler may help to look for vasoconstriction.

Medication like methylcobalamine with muscle relaxant and analgesic will reduce pain; you can take them consulting your treating doctor.
You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.
You may need to take rest for early healing.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
