What Causes Severe Chest Pain And Temporary Loss Of Vision Upon Exertion?

My 19 year old son suddenly is experiencing severe chest pain with exertion, accompanied by temporary vision loss. Episode is remedied by sitting down to rest and let the vision return and pain subside. Chest pain returns with any amount of exertion, i.e. walking at a quick pace or some distance. Possible causes? Ultrasound shows no abnormality of heart.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I was thinking of syncope related to heart problems but since you are saying that heart ultrasound is normal this is not possible. I suppose it may be an effort asthmatic attack.

Your doctor can do a spirometry and also Ig E levels. The treatment may consist on inhaled b agonists.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
