What Causes Severe Cough After Taking Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide?

Several years ago I was diagnosed with Hypotension. They started out with Hydrochlorothiazide and after I had gone through some stressful life situations I went to a heart dr. He said there is nothing wrong with my heart. However since I have been on Lisinopril/Hydrochlothiazide I developed a cough. Should I be taking the Lisinopril? I thought it was a heart medication.

Hello dear!
Welcome and thank you for sharing your concerns with us!

If you are diagnosed with HYPERTENSION (high blood pressure), you have to use antihypertenssive drugs but seems that you are not too lucky with that medication.

Enalapril and other its family drugs like lisinopril give cough as the most common side effect of them.
So to get rid of this side effect you should not use this drug family ending with -pril.

Instead of that I would recommend you Valsartan+Hydorchlorthiazide.
That is a combination as good as the first but it doesn't give you cough and give good effects in your blood pressure.

I'm sure you will be fine!
