What Causes Severe Hair Loss And Muscle Soreness While Suffering From Hashimoto S Thyroiditis?

I have hoshimotos which has been stable. I have had a past history of long term prednisone use during sever hoshimotos crisis. Strong Familial history of Diabetes. recently I have been experiencing hair loss, severe muscle soreness (only during the night), morning stiffness, frequent voiding at night, 40 lbs gained in one year. The only thing that helps with hair loss, muscle soreness, and stiffness is Prednisone 5mg.Recent labs last week Total T-4= 1.1 ;Total T-3 = 2.6; TSH =2.13. Fasting Glucose 99 (previous results 76). Cortizol: 0730=14; 08:45=23; 0915=24.7. All other CMP values within normal range. My current medications: Synthroid 0.075mg, Liothyronine 5mcg, prednisone 2.5 mg one or two tablets every day. My Endocrinologist states my Thyroid is stable. I don t believe him because of my symptoms . Please advise.

Hi,

Well, effective treatments for some types of hair loss are available. But some hair loss is permanent. If your hair loss is caused by an underlying disease, treatment for that disease will be necessary. This may include drugs to reduce inflammation and suppress your immune system, such as prednisone. But also, 2 medications are used for treatment and include minoxidil and Finasteride. If there is no success with these then hair transplant or restoration surgery can make the most of the hair you have left.
