What Causes Severe Heartburn For The Past Three Days?

I have been having heartburn for 3 days now.... Worse when I lay down.... Pepto helps and I have been trying to watch what I eat and drink Very strong pain in chest and sometimes goes into jaw when it comes on gas and burping take Zantac twice a day pepto and tums.... Just quite smoking 2 weeks ago. Under stress husband lost job In November. I m loosing mine end of month

Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of getting very much stressed as the husband has lost job and you too are going to, getting severe heartburn, for the past 3 days, worse when you lay down, Pepto and Zantac is helping, just quit smoking 2 weeks ago...
I can understand the situation you are going through.
Since this is 3 days old problem, it is the stress and anxiety that has caused gastritis and may be GERD to the extent of getting you in a big trouble.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Take Zantac twice a day as before.
Add on a PPI like Omeprazole.
Tums to be taken when on an empty stomach.
Small frequent feeds of soft bland diet.
Stress is the causative agent in your case, hence you have to take care to be stress and anxiety free, if not then you should take medicines to quieten the anxiety and take help of your local Doctor as these are prescription based medicines.
This will help you as it \helps all my patients with similar patients.
