Hello,

As you have been facing these issues from childhood, you need to get it examined by an orthopedist. You should take up an X-ray or an MRI of the knee and then we can understand what exactly is happening.

Is there a maltracking of the patella, or the joint space is reduced. The knee rehabilitation team which will include the orthopedist, physiotherapist etc to help you out.

Post the x-ray or an MRI there will be a possible understanding why the rubbing sound is there. As of now it can be due to either muscle weakness or may be ligament injury.

But as you said its from childhood we need to figure out on clinical basis post examining the knee if there is ligament laxity.

Once we check it out we can help you better. In case you have a detailed history of you please do feel free to contact me.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
