What Causes Severe Neck Pain And Shoulder Blade?

About a month ago I noticed a new pain in my back, on the left side going up and down between my shoulder blade and my lower waistline. It seemed like a pulled muscle but I could still move any way I wanted to without adding to the pain. After a couple of weeks the pain seemed to get better but would come back off and on for short periods of time. A few days ago I noticed that the upper left side of my abdomen had a bulge in it that was not just fat . I could feel a firmer bulge underneath my layer of fat and could/can see it. It stayed that size for approximately two days, then this morning when I woke up it had shrunk but it is still there. It is uncomfortable and seems to be pressing on my left back - which is why I told you about my back hurting first.

Hello,

I have studied your case.
Due to compression of cervical nerve root there can be pain in arm shoulder and waist.
Also there can be large disc bulge which is compressing over spinal cord.

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication like gabapentin can be started consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give you relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.

MRI will help in diagnosis.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.

Hi

Greetings from HealthcareMagic!

Upper back pain may caused due to-
Inflammation and irritation in the upper back takes place for a number of different reasons For example it is as simple as poor posture, for others it can be trauma due to an accident or sports injury. There are also medical conditions including herniated disc, arthritis, spinal degeneration, spinal stenosis, spondylitis, kidney stones or bone cancer that can lead to upper back pain. In most cases, upper back pain is associated with muscle irritation from poor posture or joint problems, which are not reasons to panic.
So back pain is back pain, right? Well, not exactly. Not all symptoms of shoulder blade pain are focused on the backside of the chest and upper abdominal area. There are other signs associated with back pain. Upper back pain with difficulty breathing may be a sign of heart attack, while upper back pain with a fever could be a sign of an infection.
But you feel bulging in the left upper abdomen is may caused due to spleenomegaly.
The spleen sits high in the LUQ (Left upper quadrant) near the top of stomach. It is situated just below the diaphragm and is protected by the lower rib cage. Disorders of the spleen characteristically cause LUQ pain/discomfort, which often radiates to the left shoulder. Blunt trauma to the left chest or upper abdomen can rupture the spleen, causing pain and tenderness of the LUQ, and potentially life-threatening bleeding. Enlargement of the spleen, or splenomegagly, can also cause LUQ pain, which is often described as fullness. Splenomegaly can occur with a variety of conditions, including: -- sickle cell disease -- leukemia or lymphoma -- hepatitis or cirrhosis -- infectious mononucleosis. Pain due to disease of pancreas-
The pancreas is an elongated organ that sits deep in the abdomen. It cross the mid-line, with the head to the right and the tail extending into the LUQ behind the stomach. Because of its location, diseases of the pancreas can cause pain centrally or on either side of the upper abdomen. Pancreatic pain commonly radiates to the central back. Pancreatic tumors and inflammation of the pancreas, or pancreatitis, can trigger left upper abdomen discomfort /pain.

Take Care
