What Causes Severe Pain In Knee?

Hi, My dad has been having really bad pain on his knee. He went to the doctor and they ordered a lot of tests and xrays. Today he went to get the results and they told him that the xrays show a black spot on his knee. They also said he need to not eat a lot of tortillas, soda, sugar, etc... He has about 4 more appointments and a lot more lab work to get done. What may he have???

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

As he has a pain in the knee which is pretty High, I will ask if he is able to bend the knee on his own in lying position and is he able to apply weight on the knee. I think he should be having more pain toward the medical side of the knee joint which could be a medial collateral ligament sprain. Also, I will advise going for an MRI as it could be a degenerative change in the joint which happens with age which might lead to changes in the soft tissue anatomy.

Doing hot water fermentation, using a knee brace, static Quadriceps, static Hamstring will be of help. In case is he is not diabetic than cold packs will help to reduce the pain as well.

Please share the reports the next time so we can provide the exercise prescription based on the pathology, but for now, the above mentioned conservative management will help him reduce the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
