What Causes Severe Pain, Swelling And Inflammation In Knee?

Hello, Dr. Rynne, My daughter has RA. She s 33 and has been complaining about severe pain in her knee. The knee is inflamed and she is walking with difficulty. Pain has been a 10/10. It is swollen. She is on Humira. She doesn t have insurance so is waiting for Dec. 30th appointment when she does have insurance. Her nurse told her to go to ER if pain got worse because she may have abscess. How serious is this condition? She does not have a fever.

Hi
Welcome to healhcaremagic
After going through your query I cancluded that your nurse may be right in suspecting that you may be having abcess if you have fever along with severe pain swelling and inflammation. You can take analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. You can take antibiotics and becomplex. You may need incision and drainage if it is abcess. You can discuss with your Doctor about it. Hope your query get answered. If you have any further questions then don't hesitate to writing to us . I will be happy to help you.
