What Causes Severe Radiating Pain Below The Rib Cage In A Type 2 Diabetic?

.I’m 68,5’9, 211 # type 2 diabetic. Have a level 6 pain, feels like a burn outside but like a jabbing pain inside it radiates from front right side from below rib around to my spine where there is a constant pain there also. No blisters present. I’ve had a shingles vaccination.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You seem to be suffering from herpes zoster. It is involvement of spinal nerve by chicken pox many years after primary disease has resolved. It occurs whenever immunity is decreased due to any reason. Pain appears many weeks before actual blisters appear. Considering your age and having diabetes, both factors lead to lowering of body immunity. I would advise you to visit to skin specialist as soon as possible. Anti viral drugs such as Acyclovir is main line of treatment.

Hope this is useful.
