What Causes Severe Sweating And Hot Flashes Which Troubles Sleeping?
I am a 76 year old woman. I am a diabetic and am on a pump. My A1C runs between 7.0 and 8.0. I had been on estrogen med for many years after having a hystorectomy. I was taken off the estrogen about 2 years ago. About a year ago I started suffering with continual major hot flashes and severe sweating. It seems to happen more in the early evening and becomes very debilitating. I am having trouble sleeping because of this. I am on meds for hypothyroidism, blood pressure, and an anti-depressent. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem? Thank you

What Causes Severe Sweating And Hot Flashes Which Troubles Sleeping?
Hello, I believe these hot flashes are due to the estrogen withdrawal. Hot flashes are a very common and disabling manifestation of menopause. In your case being on estrogen medication had prevented them from appearing, but once estrogen was interrupted they came to the surface. Hormone replacement therapy may be reconsidered, if not possible medication like Clonidine or Gabapentin might help. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist
